While running a family business can have unique issues and problems, it can also be an incredible experience. Here are a few reasons why.
1. You already know your coworkers.
You get to avoid the awkward days at the beginning of the new job, where you try to make a good impression, and you wonder if people are looking at you funny or talking about you. You don’t have to prove your professional skills to an office full of strangers, hoping that they don’t see through your nerves. You already know the people you’ll be working with. You know it’s a safe environment, and you’ll be loved even if you mess up the latest reports.
2. You are invested in the future of the business, and so are your coworkers.
Granted, not everyone in the family will want to be part of the business. But unlike most workplaces, everyone in the family will care if the business succeeds or fails. If several family members are financially invested in the business, suddenly the kids and grandkids (and their education, housing, Christmas gifts) all depend on the business succeeding. So you will know that everyone you’re working with cares as much as you do.
3. You get to spend your days with the people that matter most.
Let’s be honest: family can drive you crazy. But at the end of the day, they’re your family, and you love them more than anyone else out there. So for a lot of people, it’s a huge bummer to have to spend the majority of their time with people they don’t really care for, and come home at night to the ones they love, just in time to go to bed and do it all over the next day. But if you start a family business, you get to choose to give all your time to the most important people in your life – not just the leftover hours.Tags: Enterprising, family, Reward, visionary, Willing To Work
